Bates CAIR system?
Has anyone had a problem fitting a horse with a Bates Caprilli CC saddle? More specifically an ottb?
And what do you all think of the CAIR system?? My ottb has a sore back and is very slowly putting on weight (and soon hopefully muscle!) so I am contemplating the Bates Caprilli CC with CAIR but I've heard that it has also ruined a lot of horse's backs so now I am thinking to get one fitted and wool flocked.
I was going to have a professional come out at any rate to fit saddles but I know that the CAIR cannot be "fitted" properly without being ridden in (which sucks!). He's easy to fit tree-width wise, but wither wise is a bit difficult which is why I am thinking of getting a saddle with a changeable gullet system.
CAIR is great but I think its more been designed for the conveneince of not having to stuff your saddle as often or EVER I guess. Its great to maintain but for a horse with a sore back its more important to have it fit RIGHT and to pad down accordingly. Id suggest checking into a gel ride for a sore back, getting your saddle professional fit AND lunging with long and low reinforcement before you get up and start riding right away. Iam assuming that he/she is track sore so this is always good to rid of as best you can before putting them into consistant work. Out to pasture for a month to be a horse, weight gain, then start working with them.
