bates saddle opinion

Poll:what do you think is the best body shape for women?

i just need your opinions..
Choose from these:
The Pear – small bust, long waist, flat tummy, saddle bags and heavy legs (e.g. Sandra Bullock)

The Apple – average bust, tummy larger than bust with flat bottom and okay legs (e.g. Kathy Bates)

The Column – shoulder width same as hip width with a slight waist and long legs (e.g. Nicole Kidman)

The Hourglass – large bust, small and short waist, large hips and full thighs (e.g. Salma Hayek)

Goblet – broad shoulders, large bust, no waist with narrow hips and long legs (e.g. Catherine Zeta Jones)

...I'm actually pear-shaped by the way..(small waist and curvy hips)
hmmm...it seems a lot of people prefer the hourglass figure

The hourglass would be my vote

Which saddle should I get?

I ride jumpers, Level V. I've been using a Cortina for some time but have decided to buy a new saddle, as I do not quite like the position I'm put in in mine.

I've come down to two decisions, either this Bates Hunter Jumper: http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?pgguid=0f073f84-3c69-41fc-8789-9b8f7455775a,

or this Collegiate Parfaire: http://www.adamshorsesupply.com/browse.cfm/4,5356.html

Does anyone have any experience with these two saddles? Of the two, which would you suggest? Which holds up better/rides better/is better-looking, in your opinion? Thanks!

The Bates saddle is on a fairly flat tree, so it would work best for a horse with a moderate wither who isn't terribly wide. The Parfaire works well for a horse with a bit more wither - more of a Tb-type build. The Parfaire is made in Argentina, and the Bates in Viet Nam; both are moderately priced and decent quality for the money.

Your best bet for finding the right saddle is to work with a repuatable independent saddle fitter, or with a shop that has a big inventory and an in-house fitter. It will save you a lot of time, money and frustration.

If you don't have access to a local fitter, you can work long-distance with a place like Trumbull Mtn. Tack Shop (http://www.trumbullmtn.com). They can work with you via tracings and photos to find the saddle that's right for you. Instructions are posted on-line at http://www.trumbullmtn.com/Other_Pages/saddlefit/fitting%20info%20pkg.htm.
