I don't know if there's a word for that, but I agree with your assessment (as well as the answerer above me).
I so can relate! G is going into the 8th grade and there are still things we are “working on.” Is it a blip or a bump? Who knows perspective is so hard to get… However, now I really see his personality and passion developing. Last year he won a blue ribbon in the county fair for a painting. You can see it here:
