I have a flea bitten grey arab. Currently I have a brown close contact collegiate english saddle and a brown bridle. I noticed how much better black looks on my horse though. I was talking to a trainer at a show and said that I would like my next saddle and bridle to be black. But she said that is only for dressage. And hunters use brown. Is that really how it works? I have only been riding for 2 years and this is my first horse so I don't know much about showing. Do you think I should stick with brown? The black really looks good on my horse, but I show in hunters, not dressage. FYI Arab is short for arabian. google arabian horse. then flea bitten grey is a color. duh... get off this website. we dont need people like you on this site. Thanks so much for answering. I really like him in black, but I know it is tradition for brown. So I guess I will stick with brown.
Yes, if you are showing hunters your, tack has to be a dark brown or havannah. Black is only for dressage. You will be marked down in classes if you have a black saddle in a hunter class. Just like in Dressage if you show in a brown saddle you will be marked down too. Its just tradition. And the saddle has to be made of leather, it can't be synthetic.
Yes you are right flea bitten horses look good in black, but I have a friend that shows hunter and they look just as stunning in brown
