What do you think of the Collegiate Finalist Saddle?
I was looking at the Collegiate Finalist Saddle and liked the looks of it. It looks well made and the price is great. The only question I have left is, is it a good quality saddle worth the money? If you have a review of this saddle then post it! Thanks!
I am not certain of the newer Collegiates, but my Collegiate is around 20 years old and it has held up extremely well. I will also admit that I do not take very good care of my saddle at all. I clean it about once a month and don't cover it, and my Collegiate is still in very good condition.
Comfort-wise, though, it rides like a rock (I used to think it was super comfortable until i sat in some newer saddles!), but puts me in a good position. I have sat in a few of the newer Collegiates though and they seem to be much more comfortable, and have (from what I can tell) better-quality leather.
I have also heard others complain that Collegiate's flaps are designed for shorter people, and I would (at 5'1" myself) somewhat have to agree with that.
Keep in mind, though, that I also bought mine for $450 used about 9 years ago. So while it looked great and the leather was in excellent condition, it did not hold its value well.
So, I can tell you they are a good-quality brand. Obviously not the best quality, but if cared for, it will probably last you. You could also try to find a better-quality saddle used for a similar price, and it will likely last you just as long, and perhaps be more attractive and/or comfortable.
