Best options for reducing lens thickness/weight without sacrificing too much image quality?

I refer to image quality as the picture I get from looking through the lenses. i.e low distortions etc.

I have a prescription of about -9.00D in each eye.
I've always had trouble with thick, heavy lenses and uncomfortable nose pads.

I've found some frames from Specsavers: HI RX 11, Lance, Manfred, Nelson.
Frame styles are quite large and 'old' style. I chose them primarily because they have the 'comfort bridge' aka saddle bridge which I find most comfortable and easily user adjustable. Large frame size don't help me in reducing lens thickness either...

I just need alternatives to high index lenses. I've only been willing to go up to a refractive index of 1.67 due to the distortions/chromatic aberrations.

Actually, the lab surfacing the lenses has nothing to do with it. They are made to a 1 mm center thickness.

Your lenses would be a stock lens in 1.67 anyway...so it is just the frame size that will control the edge thickness.

There is no other alternative to a high index lens...just a better frame choice.

With a smaller frame, there will be a lot less edge thickness, therefore less chromatic aberration and distortions.

If you are determined to stay with very big frames, then nothing can be done to help the problem.

english saddle pad question?

is their a difference in comfort for a horse in deciding whether to ride with a wool saddle pad versus a woven cotton saddle pad? i prefer the look of the woven cotton ... but the horse's comfort always comes first. thanks!

I use the fleece saddle pads. Sometimes I use a baby pad with a half pad for schooling. You need to determine what your horse needs. If he has high withers, you may need a wither relief pad. I have a fleece and wool half pad that I use on an older TB who is a bit on the lean side. If you show english you will need a fleece pad contoured to your saddle.

Hope this helps!
