Leather cleaner and Magic Courbette?
I have a five or six year old Courbette Magic saddle and, well, it's not really looking it's best (for shows i mean). You're only supposed to clean them with a damp sponge or cloth, but mine has water damage on it and i can't afford a new one. I was just wondering if it is safe to use leather cleaner and conditioner on it...
Although ive never owned one myself, It is a leather saddle so leather cleaner should be safe. you can always use a simple glycerin bar and warm water to clean it. If you are looking for some added shine I HAVE to recommend passier's lederbalsam. It is my absolute favorite conditioner. It can leave your saddle with a very slight tacky feel, but i think it adds just a bit of grip. And if you work at it and really buff it you will get a great shine.
for an easier go, you can use neatsfoot oil as it really will shine, but too much will make your saddle oily and slippery and it will darken light colored leather.

Dressage saddle color question - older saddle?
I just received a new saddle and it is a strange color -- I like it...but it is a bit odd to me. I forgot to take a pic of it, but this saddle looks like it has leg rolls and a seat of the same color: http://www.dressagestar.com/Members/gusgusgus10/barnsby-luxus-dressage
The saddle I got is an older Courbette (maybe 10-20 years old). I don't show so it isn't too big of a deal and I am just going to pair it with a black girth and leathers to go with the bridle I already have, but I was still curious about the color.
What color is it or what color was it originally if it has faded? It was described as dark grey, but looks more greenish to me. Sort of an olive-greenish-grey. And the color is fairly even all over except where the leathers have rubbed it it is black. Was this color a fad for a while or did just a few companies use it? I know brown used to be more common too and now it just seems to be black so I thought maybe other colors were used too.
It originally was black. All black dye is really a very, very dark green. If you ever have had black socks for a lot of years, washed them over and over they turn green. Those of use who are artsy learn that you can't add white to black paint--you get a grayish green, not gray.
This saddle has been stored in the sun, near a window, or left in the hot trailer as a storage place. It's no big deal, just kinda funny looking. It might be a little "thirsty" so a good conditioning might be appreciated by the leather. It will however remain greeny-gray.
