how much would it cost to get this saddle repaired?
I just bought a crosby saddle online and it has a tear along one of the seams but everything else is fine.
but how much do you think it would cost to get it repaired?

does it REALLY need to be fixed or can I just ride with it like that?
It's not a tear from the seams it's actually a tear next to the seams. The saddler is going to have to remove the whole seat cover and replace it so you are looking at $200.00 and up sadly.
You can call Broken Horn Wed-Sun and talk to Trevor and describe the tear and get a more accurate price.

home made saddle oil?
so i just purchased a used crosby saddle tonight.
its about 15 years old and is in pretty good condition.
the only problem is that the leather is stiff as all get out. this thing probably hasn't been on a horse's back in like 5+ years.
so i followed my trainers advice and used my lexol leather cleaner to clean the saddle, but i'm out of oil. she told me to use vegetable oil on it until i can get to the tack store and pick up some real oil.
the cleaner and veggie oil have worked decently. the leather doesn't feel like you can crack it anymore, but it's not as conditioned as i'd like it to be.
i was planning on using it tomorrow and i was wondering if anyone knows some home remedies or anything to make saddle oil or conditioner?

Bar of glycerine soap
Grated into 2 cups of milk
Put in microwave but watch cuz it boils over fast
1 tbsp olive oil
Put it in a container with a tight lid and stick it in the fridge. It doesn't keep forever so don't make a crapload of the stuff. You could probably half the recipe and make less.
Oh and to add, this sh*t works better than the name brands.
