I may possibly get a chance to show a tennesssee walker. Is it possible to show in a dressage saddle? Or do I have to use a cutback? And I am really confused about the dress. Like you are supposed to wear something different after 6:00 or something? What about a white shirt, black vest, black coat, black pants, black boots, colored tie, and black derby, and black gloves? Is that ok?
Yes, I know what kind of jacket.
You will need a cutback-a cutback not only has room for the withers the average TWH has, but it will also have a tree appropriate for a walking horse to free up their shoulders. They have a lot of action up front, and a normal saddle tree will screw their movement up.
The clothing sounds right, though. I think they usually wear a certain style of jacket, just like the ones worn in SaddleSeat.

How much does it cost to own a horse for 20 years?
I've been riding for a long time, and have wanted a horse for soo long! But my parents and i know it's expensive, but just how much? I'd like a lot of detail on what the costs would be, and i'm planning on maybe a saddlebred riding saddleseat (in a cutback saddle)
Math skills... ok.
Stable/Feed - can run more or less than 500$ a month so that's 120,000$ for 20 years
Lessons - can run more or less than 50$ a session. Plan on 3-4 sessions a week so thats 200,000$ or more for lessons
Shots/Grooming/General Upkeep - you're looking at spending at least 100$ a month on shoes, boots, grooming supplies which is $4,000 for 20 years. Add in the cost of shots and worming.... and shoeing.
Add in tack which can cost up upwards of $3,000 which you'll have to replace at least once in 20 years
Plus any injuries or sicknesses to the horse which can be thousands for each case. I can't even do the math on that one since it depends on your vets price, the illness or injury, and the horse.
Saddlebred horses alone can run over $50,000. My friend's dad paid that much for a green-broke mare.
Once you figure the math in 20 years of ownership, it looks REALLY expensive... and it is. Owning a horse definitely isn't cheap. I've had mine for 11 years now...
