I need to buy tack for my soon to be Percheron. I'm not quite sure of his height but he is rather large..and I've no idea where to buy such big tack. This includes halters, a saddle, a girth, polo wraps, blankets/sheets, etc.
Also, he has a docked tail, do you think I should keep his mane very short as well or let it grow? It's very thick and gorgeous but I don't want him to look awkward.. and I already have a bridle that would fit him well.
One last question, what type of soap/shampoo and conditioner do you use on your horse?
My friend has a Clydesdale and not all of his stuff (ie. polo wraps) are specialty draft tack. His stuff comes from a variety of places such as eBay and jeffersequine.com. Jeffers has a "Draft Horse Supplies" category where you could find a lot of good stuff, but a lot of horse sized things fit drafts, so I would advise that you not just buy things for the "draft" aspect of it.
The type of shampoo that we use depends on the horse and skin type. For instance, an older horse that is more susceptible to rain rot and the like, we shampoo and condition with EQyss Medicated Shampoo. It's very effective. But in general, I think that EQyss is a good overall brand.
