Draft Horse Fun Show Classes- Suggestions?
Hey all. Don't know how many folks in my region are interested in Draft under saddle classes but we are planning a Draft Horse Fun Show. We also want to encourage the many folks who do other farm type things with their draft horses but don't do the fancy In-Hand or Pulling with their drafts. So that being said what about these kinds of classes:
1. Equitation- under age 14
2. Equitation- over 14
3. Pleasure
4. Low Hunter -fences up to 2.0
5. Gamblers Choice
6. Intro Dressage Test (Walk Trot only)
Fun Classes like:
7. Costume
8. Egg/Spoon
9. Barrel weaving
10. Dollar Bareback
More?
also.. Trail Obstacle classes and possibly In harness Farm classes like log dragging and plowing.
Perhaps some relay team events?
Have you heard of feed team races?? They are a hoot, usually they pit the mule teams against horse teams for more competition in the audience.
You start out with either a single or team hooked to a stone boat, go to the starting line. There is 6 bales in of hay set up in 2 areas and you have a swamper and a driver. THe clock starts for both teams the driver takes the team to the bales, the swamper loads them. Once they are loaded then you come around to the outside of the arena and go to the end where there is cones and room enough for one team to pass.
Once they get through there, its a serpentine back to the starting line and there is plywood set up. The swamper unloads 2 bales at each plywood as they serpentine through it. Fastest time and least faults wins.
The faults are, teams still moving as swamper gets off. Breaking a bale, loping on course (they can only trot), bales have to set on plywood and can't touch dirt. so on etc.
Its a huge crowd pleaser and the participants love this class.
