Draft Horse Saddles

where can i find some cheap saddles? I dont want websites either? i need some good places in wisconsin!?
I am starting a riding arena, i need saddles of all sizes im a younger person but my passion is horses! I dont have alot of money to spend, but i still need to have them! Also i am looking for some cheap horses for sale! Nebody that has some info on ne of the questions i asked it would greatly be appreciated! I definatly need to find a draft saddle!
draft saddle- get a cordura synthetic if you want a western one- they are cheap (150ish) and can bend to fit almost any horse. They fit our 2 yr old paint and our fat 17.2 hand shire with no problem.
As for english draft- the only thing that my mare does not wreck are the thoroughgood/griffith dressage saddles (extra wide). She broke the tree on a wintec, and a generic brand. I just bought a brand new griffith one 3 yrs ago for $600.
If you are going for english- fleet farm has cheap saddles, otherwise Libertyville saddleshop in IL (right across the border). They do have a website as well, but they do not have their used or clearance saddles listed. Any local tack shop in Wisconsin is going to have expensive saddles, I can not think of one that carries used saddles (I live in Stevens Point and Appleton).
If you are close to Stevens Point, Heartland stables has some used saddles for sale right now sitting outside the cafeteria which are not too badly priced and in good condition. I am sure a lot of large riding arenas may have old saddles they would be willing to sell. Just put up a notice at their barn.
Another idea is get a copy of the wisconsin's horseman's news- they have saddles listed all the time. You can also go to horse fairs and 4-H tack swaps. The biggest ones are in Madison during the Midwest horse fair, but I think central WI has a swap coming up sometime soon- it will be listed in the horseman's news.
good luck in your search.

What was the domestic horse population in North America, in 1860, and 1900, compared to current population?
I read somewhere a few years ago, (can't document) that there are more horses in the U.S. and Canada now, than there were at the turn of the last century (1900, that is).
Now, when I said that to my grandfather, who was there, then, he just laughed, "Ho.Ho.Ho. that is impossible, everyone had at least a couple of horses back then, driving horses, saddle horses, draught horses working on the farm and hauling freight. In those days, if you were a member of the Teamster's Union, you drove a team."
He was right about that, but at the same time, the human population was a lot smaller. I have the local census for 1862, and it supports that. I can find a lot of census results that say that livestock is included, but no results are given. I can find an estimate for the current horse population of Ontario, (Canada, not California) that says 375,000, but not older results.
Can anyone help me with this ??
Thanks.
Henry Steel
I don't know, but that sounds right. You also have to consider that because horses get better vet care now, they're living longer, so there are more just because it takes them longer to pass away.
Plus, as you said, more people!
I know for a fact that there are more Native Americans now than there were before Europeans colonized the Americas. It's because they have better medicines and are living longer, less infant mortality, etc. So it could be a similar situation, even though you'd think there'd be less it's actually more.
