Make Your Own Dressage Browband Kit?
Years ago I saw a company online that sold browband kits so you could make your own beaded or stoned browband. I just went online to look and I can't find them any more. Does anyone out there know where I can find a make your own brow band kit? I am looking for one that uses black leather and has a cut out in the center of the browband where the stones can lay in.
I don't know about a kit, but I got creative at Michael's a few years back and started making my own browbands. I'm sure they aren't top quality
but they're super cute and I haven't had a problem with them not being durable or anything. The way that mine look, is that the beaded part is just several rows of beads (no leather behind it) and then on the sides they attach into the little leather piece that slides over the crownpiece of the bridle. Here's what I got:
From the leather work dept, I got a hole punch, those little clasp things (I don't even know the name) that go through the hole to clasp one piece to another, and the tool that you use to hammer the clasp shut.
From the bead dept, I got the strongest of that clear beading string stuff, and a few assortments of beads that I could make a nice pattern with. I also got slider beads, the kind that have several holes so that you can have a few rows of beads and it can hold them together.
I laid a real browband out on the floor so I could see how long I needed to make the bead part, and worked out a pattern with my beads below the real browband so I could make sure it was going to be centered and symmetrical. Then I went ahead and strung it on the stringy stuff. With the leather, I cut a strip, folded it in half making a loop that would fit around the crownpiece, cut a hole in the ends leaving it just big enough to slide onto the bridle, hammered those clasp things into it to hold it into the loop. Make two of the leather things, one for each side, and then I just tie the string of beads tightly to the clasp (squeeze it between the two ends of the leather and then loop it around the clasp and pull tight to tie it) so you can't see the string or anything. I get compliments on them all the time. I like to use all sorts of colorful beads, crystals, stones, seashells, etc.
