English Saddle Bag
What is this horse poduct used for and should i use it?
ok my mom was cleaning out our basement when she found a bag of horse supplies from when i was little.Because i rode horses since i was 3.And i looked in the bag and there was a face brush a hard bristle brush saddle soap and saddle wax and there was something else.Its called hooflex liquid conditioner it says its for restoring healthy hooves.And i was starring at it and wondering if i could use it and what it is exactly for.I also take lessons for 9 years.And i also do shows for english riding. I dont know how old the bottle is but i dont think its ever been used.I dont lease a horse right now but in a year or two i am.So can you guys tell me what this stuff is.

Mmmmmm, Hooflex! I love the smell of it. Someone should make a perfume with that smell.

Hoof dressing is used to maintain the flexibility and moisture of the hoof material, to keep the hooves from getting brittle and breaking or cracking. Secondary use is to make the exterior of the hoof look nice if you are showing the horse. As far as I know Hooflex has no shelf life limitations, and if the stuff you have can still be applied to the horse's hooves with a brush, it's still good.
Caveat: if it's in a plastic container, the plastic can become brittle over time and will crack and break easily. Much as I love the smell of Hooflex, you do not want to have this stuff leak all over things because it is messy to clean up. If your Hooflex is in a plastic container and if you intend to keep it without using it for some time, put it in a "containment" holder-- a bucket or can or something where if it leaks, you just throw the mess away, you don't have to clean it up.
