Saddle question, related to hunter/jumpers?
Why do hunter/jumpers use close contact saddles while show jumpers use all purpose?
Or do some still use close contact? Is it only eventers who use all purpose saddles?
Are close contacts the saddles that are best for only jumping? Is that what English Pleasure riders use as well?
I'm really confused.
So, they use them because in that discipline the horse is judged and they need to feel the horse better?

That is not necessarily true. At the top level of hunters and jumpers, basically all the saddles are close contact. Those are made specifically for jumping, but there are many designs of close contact. Some C/C saddles have longer flaps, to accommodate riders who also work on the flat, while others have short flaps which as used for riders who jump often and don't have to show on the flat (such as jumpers).
Eventers use all purpose saddles though; this is because they are good for dressage and jumping, while it would be hard to do dressage in a C/C saddle or jumping in a dressage saddle.
Yes, close contact saddles are the best for jumping, and English Pleasure riders are mostly on the flat, so it doesn't matter what saddle they use; it's basically all just preference.
And for your final question, that is also a yes. If you're jumping high fences (3'6+), then you'll want to help your horse as much as you can and make it comfortable for him to do his job, and so that you can control and feel him better to work as a team.

Should I get this saddle? PLEASE HELP!?
Ok, so I just got a horse. I really need a saddle. I do beginner hunter/jumper. I can walk, trot, trot poles, canter, canter poles. I found this saddle on eBay, and it's my first English saddle (I used to do Western). It seems like a good saddle, and I need some other opinions. It might fit me, I'll ask for a trial period.

I would seriously not buy a saddle without trying it so make sure these people arent going to rip you off. You dont have to buy the first saddle you see either, shopping around is good. I went through more than 5 saddles and will probably go through more. If you have a trainer, I would ask them.

That commercial should be banned. It SAYS that contracting the disease is extremely rare, yet it goes on to tell you that you need to give your kids their product to prevent the disease. It is one of the worst examples of scare tactic marketing I've ever seen. I went to college, law school and graduate school, have known tens of thousands of college students and their families and probably have had contact with countless thousands more in my life. I have heard of ONE case of mennigitas, and it was not the one they talk about in that commercial. The chances of getting this disease are so miniscule that the risks of taking the drug probably outweigh it hundreds of times over.
Dont buy into that. PLEASE. Let your kid enjoy his or her life.
