English and Western saddle measurment?
Does anyone know a website or info on how to convert saddle measurment. I know what size western saddle my horse wears ( the saddle I have fits him perfectly), but would like to know what size english saddle he needs. He is an arab and rides in a saddle with arab bars, but I am afraif to purchase an english saddle with a wide tree because of his high withers. Thanks
Good to know Rosie. I do have an old Campbell dressage saddle that is a wide tree. It does fit my smaller arab well but was afraid because he has smaller withers.
Actually a WIDE tree is what you need! I've used my old siegfried (Stubben) on a LOT of Arabs and because it's a wide tree, NEVER had an issue (It also has sat on a LOT of TBs, QHs and one lonely little Azteca.).

What Do You Think About This Saddle(s)? English?

What Do You Think? I'm considering one of these saddles.
Number two, while it may be the most expensive, it definitely looks to be the best of the bunch. I've also heard that Paris tack isn't a bad brand.
Another thing that you could do is to check out ebay and try and win a saddle for much cheaper than you'd get in a store.
Some brands to look for:
HDR (Henri De Rival)
Collegiate
Ovation
Dover Saddlery Brand
I've never used, but I think Wintec is ok too.
Other good (but more expensive saddles):
Pessoa
Bates
Beval
Harry Dabbs
There's a lot more, but those are the saddles that I've been around and know are good quality enough to recommend to someone.
Also, you most likely won't use all of those items in the package, you might as well pay $400 for a saddle and send $110 on the things you need, stirrup irons, stirrup leathers, girth, bridle (hopefully it comes with reins, most do), bit, saddle pad, and some horses don't even need martingales, and I've used my saddle's cover twice in the 7 years I've had it.
And if you were to show, you'd need a white fleece pad anyways, you wouldn't be able to use that green one anyways.
Some places to shop around:
http://www.sstack.com
http://www.doversaddlery.com
http://www.statelinetack.com
http://www.ebay.com
http://www.tacktrader.com
pick out the items and price them up separately, compare it to the package. It's better to spend a few extra dollars on the saddle, and buy cheaper bridle and other things, since they won't probably be around as long anyways.
Good luck, hope I helped ![]()
