can you use an all purpose english saddle at a horse show?
I want to buy an english saddle and I am a hunter (hunter jumper) and I saw this very nice saddle for sale and it fits and its an all purpose saddle and I just didn't want to invest in a new saddle until I knew for sure that you can use an all purpose saddle at a horse show
Yes, that should be fine, especially at the lower levels. But, some all purpose saddles tend to lean more towards the dressage side, and that wouldn't be very suitable for jumping (as far as position/support) or showing in hunter shows past the local levels.
If it fits you and your horse well, and you're not planning on doing big shows for a while, you should be fine. If the saddle is called all purpose but in reality looks more like a jumping or close contact saddle, then that's totally fine for hunters at all levels. Brown leather is also preferred in the hunter ring, not the black you see in dressage.
Before you buy a saddle hire a saddle fitter to come out and check the fit on your horse. I've been riding for 15 years and I still don't trust my eye for a well-fitted saddle! Good saddle fit will save you a lot of vet bills in the long run.

Help picking out an English Saddle?
So, like the dummy I am, I bought one of those $150 ebay AP saddles. My horse has been getting a sore back, and the saddle just doesn't fit him right. I know it could be alot of other things, but by chiropractor's recomendation, I am buying a new saddle.
I ride english pleasure, equitation, etc. With the new stable that we are moving to, probably getting into jumping as well. I'm thinking of getting a close contact or jumping saddle. Any ideas/recomendations? I'm looking for a 17" Reguar tree up to $200-250...

you might want to try craig's list for your "new to you" saddle.
in this economy, alot of very expensive saddles are going for
a song. you need to do your homework though to know what the quality is and don't settle for a no name pos.
you may also want to try one of the adjustable ones from Wintec, you can change the width of the saddle with a different insert. I've heard good things about them.
