english saddle question?
does anybody know where i can get a nice english saddle? the size is 11", and not over $100 please. and if it was a package, (bridle, saddle, bit, girth, etc.) that would be great. thank you sooooooooo much!!!!

yes, i am switching from western to english. the western saddle fits the pony (size 11), but it doesnt really fit me.
An 11" all purpose saddle would be toddler sized. Do you need a lead line saddle, or are you switching from western to english?
A 15" is about as small as they come with flaps long enough to really ride with, and 16" will be much easier to find.
Are you eventing or trail riding? They frequently use an all purpose saddle, but if you are going to do hunter you would be better to get a close contact saddle. The going joke of an all purpose saddle is that it is really a "no purpose" saddle as it is supposed to splint the difference between a close contact and a dressage saddle, and it does neither very well.
You should be able to find a used saddle at many on line tack shops, (The Horse of Course, Triumph Tack, Trophy Tack, and many more) They will have better quality usually than what you will find on Craig's list. E-bay can have good items too, but you have to know your brands. They probably won't have anything for less than $800 that is any good.
Do you need a narrow, medium, medium wide, or wide tree for your horse? That is more important than fitting you.
edit--So the 11" is the longest from wither to hip on the pony? Is it a mini? Even my mini can carry a 15" close contact saddle that the kids ride on/in. We have to put a dressage girth on it to get it to be tight enough...
You want to avoid those "package" deals. They are usually just painted cardboard or rawhide with paint. Nothing quality for you or your pony. A pony can wear a 15" saddle, but you still need to address the width; narrow, med. or wide. I've had small and large ponies that needed all the widths of saddles; you cannot go by being a pony.
Is there any way you can borrow a saddle from a friend to try on the pony and you, or better yet is there a tackstore near you who does saddle fittings? You can do a wither tracing to find the width, but if you are going to ride in this saddle and you wear a size bigger than a toddler, you will not fit in an 11" saddle.

I love watching jousting and falconry. I ride Western style and many of the riders use Western saddles, adapted to look like mediaeval English saddles. Of course the Western stock saddle was developed from the Spanish military saddle so it's natural to adapt them for jousing and mediaeval renactments.
Falconry is wonderful to watch – the most amazing falconry display I've ever watched was called 'Ye Old Redtail Falconry display) and the handler, Ray, looked as if he'd walked straight of a Robin Hood set. He put on the most amazing performance, including asking for volunteers to lie down while he flew an owl over them, to experience 'a mouse eye view!
It's great that so many people enjoy these sort of events and that there are so many experts keen to perform and entertain and educate others.
