Tack trunk help!!.....?
Hi, I am looking at purchasing a Burlingham sports tack trunk, the stand-up model that can hold two English saddles and all your stuff….It is priced around $600, I found a used one for sale, the lady has it priced at $250, I am wondering if it is worth asking her if she would take $200…she has had it for sale for about a month and a half now.
You can always make an offer on anything unless the person has listed it saying $250 firm.
It is how you make the offer that matters. You can say something like, "I have $200 cash for this if you would like to negotiate the price." Then be sure to have the extra $25 if she meets you halfway. When you want to negotiate a price, I have found it invaluable to have the cash in your pocket. For some reason, people will take less if they know they can sell it that moment and not risk you walking away and not coming back.
We actually negotiated a truck sale like this and we know the truck was worth at least $2000 more, but we offered him cash on the spot. It is a fine art.

I greatly enjoyed your history of the beginnings and evolution of the Western and English saddles. It was very interesting to read about the beginnings of these saddles. I learned so much about how and why these two types of saddles were modified and refined through the ages. For riders today, this is a fun and informative article to let them appreciate their modern-day saddles even more since now they learn about how they evolved over thousands of years.

Thanks – VERY much appreciated. I need the extra security, so I would go for a saddle with blocks and with a deeper seat. I do like the ones of your Schleese – that is similar to what I am looking for. I'd been thinking about a Jeffries Falcon Hawk event saddle, if I can get one used and then have it fitted to him. Ooh – just looked at the Schleese site – the X-Country Schleese Signature Series saddle is VERY nice. Waaay out of my price range, tho.
