Western Saddle Fitting?
I am looking to buy a Western saddle from an upcoming tack sale. Unfortunately, I am an English rider and don't know very much about western saddle fitting. I won't be able to go try any saddles from tack shops, so I am just trying to wing it. My horse is a 16.2 hh Thoroughbred with high withers, but not like shockingly high or anything. I know the saddles are measured by bars, and I know my seat size would be a 15.5 or 16. It was suggested that I get a saddle with Full QH bars. Does that sound right?
Full QH Bars are made for a WIDE horse not a TB! Your best bet would be a semi QH barred treed saddle and for your seat size, deduct two inches from your english seat size for your western saddle. If you're riding in a 17.5 inch english saddle, then a 15.5 inch seat for western would be appropriate.

Noooo. The bucking strap is used on English saddles. Instead of a horn to hold onto, you hold the bucking strap. It is located at the front of the saddle.
Though I DO agree on the horses being mistreated.
