Felt Saddle

Is there any way other than padding to help saddle sores?
I have a horse that I am riding that has sores on her back. They are old and very obviously still bother her. I am using a lot of padding now, a saddle pad and a fleece, but I just feel so badly for her that I was wondering if anyone here had any other advice, remedies or any way to help her to be more comfortable.
can76 these are very old sores, they are quite healed but obviously cause her trouble during the saddling process.
You said that these OLD sores bother her in the saddling process.
If they are in deed completely healed and you've confirmed this with your vet, then it may not be pain that is bothering her. I MAY in FACT be the memory of the saddle hurting back before the sores were completely healed. This could possibly point to a behavioral problem.
If this is in deed the case, then you need to do just exactly what you're doing. Use a bit of extra padding ....as long as it takes the pressure from the saddle off the areas that had the sores. Practice with her by GENTLY saddling her several times a day until she gets the clue that it isn't going to hurt any more. Then she'll relax and any left over discomfort from anxiety of the expectation of the saddle causing pain should subside as she relaxes more and more.
I hope this helps. Good Luck!

I bought a new saddle last summer but I can't stand the stirrups!!?
I was told to never buy a new saddle and wish I would have listened. Don't get me wrong~~~the seat is comfy and all....but the stirrups! ARGH. HOW can you turn the stirrups on a new saddle so that it feels more natural? I had read somewhere to use a broom to get the stirrups to change their position, but others have said that doesn't work.
I would appreciate your advice!!
Please and thank you!!
whoever told you that twisting them doesn't work, apparently never tried it! just take a broom handle, long piece of wood, etc. and gently twist your stirrups so the adjustment part is facing out. then stick the broom handle through it and do the same to the other. I do this with any new saddle that i buy and it has never once failed me. Good Luck!!
PS.....DO NOT WET THE LEATHER!!! this can easily change the color of your stirrups and they will then NOT match the rest of your saddle! I don't know what you plan on doin but i do showing big time and ypu do not want miscolored leather. instead of wetting them, just leave the broom in a little longer than normal like 24/7 after you get off and put ypur saddle up.
