French Saddles A question to the French from Haute Loire, Auvergne?
I am an Englishman (I speak German) with the following surname: Houdeshelle. My French is horrible; I'm just beginning to learn. I don't know any of my father's family. I'd like to know if there are any of you who have a similar surname? Does this name mean anything to any of you?
I see that Haute means "high," and "selle" means saddle or seat. My current name-form has some Anglicization in the spelling due to British Imperialism. Does this make me an evil Merovingian instead of a self-loathing Saxon? =P Excellent! This literally could mean daily-sinner? This is perhaps even better. =)
Houde has a germanic origin Hildo (hild=fight) or Audo (=richness).
