Horse Pleasure
How do I get my western pleasure horse to slow down?
I've been trying forever and she's coming along but not to the point where I want her yet. Her prior owner let her go as fast as she wanted in competitions for the last 10 years. Anything helps!
f100 is right keep trying. i had horses for a long time and i got a 10 year old quarter horse that raced barrels for a while. that thing just wanted to run all the time. for me to get him to slow down it took 2 things and they dont sound very nice and i will get harped at for being mean. first one is bribing, if he behaved i gave either his favorite "junk food" a poptart (dont ask how i figured that one out) or let him go to town on the apple tree. the second is the not so nice thing, if he misbehaved then he ran circles in the corral until he couldnt run anymore........
theres something else you can try too. run him on the lead for about 15 or 20 minutes before you ride then reward him if he listens and walk when you want him too
