Hunter/Jumper questions!!!!!! Help!?
Ok, I want to get into hunter/jumper showing. I rode hunter under saddle for about a year, but I had to move. (I have been riding for 9 years all together, just wester for 8). Anyways, what are the levels of hunter/jumper competition? Also, could you describe the ideal hunter horse? Like their movement and jumping style?
I have been riding and showing hunter/jumper for many years, and I love it. There are many levels of hunter competition. If you are a junior (under 18) then you can do the beginner juniors (2'6'' to 2'9''), the juniors (2'9 to 3'), the schooling hunters (2'3 to 2'6'') or you could go up to the 3 foot plus stuff. Hunters go up to 4 foot. If you are older than 18, then there are similar divisions.
Hunter/Jumper originated from foxhunting, so the ideal hunter/jumper horse moves efficiently and gracefully. On the flat, the horse should be relaxed and consistent, with long gaits and without picking up his legs too high. His head should be low and relaxed.Over fences, the horse should be steady and relaxed, and should jump with even knees and not knock rails.
