what is the purpose of a equine jumping pad?
i went to a show jumping competition at the weekend and most of the other riders had jumping pads, i was just wondering what there use was and how the horse/rider benefited from it ??

If you mean a saddlecloth or numnah - a pad (usually quilted cotton) that goes under the saddle, it is to absorb sweat and prevent the saddle from chafing the horses back; sometimes thicker ones or ones with sheepskin or neoprene inserts are used to reduce pressure points and make the saddle fit more comfortably (although this is no substitute for a properly fitted saddle), especially if the horse has a sensitive back; these days I never see anyone ride without at least a thin one, and they also keep the saddle clean of sweat, grease and horsehair.
If you mean a seat saver - a pad attached to the seat of the saddle often made of sheepskin, fleece or gel-filled suede, these are to help cushion the seatbones or make the seat of the saddle 'stickier' and easier to cling to; some people love them, some see no need for them, it depends on how they feel in the saddle and the cushioning and 'stickyness' (or lack of it) that the saddle provides.
If you mean something else, I can't think of anything off the top of my head, maybe if you describe it?

Close contact or all purpose?!?
I'm planning on buying a saddle soon but Idk whether to get a close contact or all purpose.
I've heard the all purpose are really "no purpose" &mostly for beginners but I've been riding for about 10 years but never had my own saddle.
&I like to jump but I wouldn't be doing it everyday, more like twice a week but would a close contact be ok'?
I know the difference between each of them too.
also I'll be riding different horses so what tree size would I get that would most likely fit most horses?
well I like to jump&some horses naturally like to jump so Idc what you say.
&I'm not saying that Idc about a horses health either.
Close contact would be fine. I prefer them, they're more comfortable. At this point however, I own an all purpose because it's what I could afford.
Depending on the height you jump you can usually get away with an all purpose, but I find that they don't allow for short enough stirrups with most long-legged riders. Most riders who ride strictly on the flat will go with an all purpose because it positions you more upright than a close contact saddle does.
In the end, it's a matter of personal choice and which is more comfortable for both you and the horse.
As far as tree size goes, regular/medium tree will fit most standard size horses. Thoroughbreds tend to need a narrow tree, were Quarter Horses tend to need a wider tree. If you ride a wide range of horses, you might consider the Wintec with the easy change gullet system... just because you know the saddle will fit almost any horse you could dream of riding!
In response to the above poster who said jumping is only bad for the horses, you obviously have no knowledge of that area of riding. Yes, jumping can be hard on their joints, but so can any other sport. If proper care is taken and the horse isn't started too young, the wear and tear is the same as any other discipline. Please get your facts straight before telling someone they shouldn't do something because it's bad for their horse.

Kmart has/had hoola hoops. Jump ropes a little harder to find. I used these for similar purpose last year.
