Kincade dressage
Some horse questions?
Just some random horse questions that have been swimming in my mind lately. ![]()
What is the difference between a Dressage bridle and an Event bridle?
Is a Rose Grey a white horse with a grey/black mane and tail or...?
What are the best sport boots available (preferably for jumping)?
Are Wintec's the best english saddles? Is that why they are so expensive?
Are King saddles alright?
I'm thinking about getting Kincade Rainbow Reins, is their quality good?
I'm learning how to ride english as well as western, I'm trying to find a preference. Do I have to buy boots for English riding? I already have cowboy boots, so...
Thanks!! ![]()
I'm not jumping now. I haven't ridden English more then a few times. Is it alright to ride English with cowboy boots while I'm learning?
Sorry, the sport boots are for the horse...
Well, a really high-level dressage rider will use a double bridle. A double bridle has two spots for two different bits - a snaffle and a Weymouth. Here's a picture:

An event bridle is just a normal bridle, but sometimes they will come with a figure eight nose band, as a lot of horses go in a figure eight for cross country.
No. A rose gray is a gray horse with a chestnut-ish tint. Rose gray is almost always caused by a chestnut or bay base color that doesn't go dark before graying. Most red based horses lose all of their red tones before they gray, but some don't, causing a rose gray.
I think any leather open-front boot with buckles is great. I don't care about the brand, just quality. You could probably find a nice pair of boots at your local tack shop. But, if you want all-around splint boots, go with professionals choice or pro-equine.
I hate Wintecs. They are synthetic, for starters. They make this funny swishing sound when your post, aren't very comfortable, look AWFUL, and get really dusty. They are sometimes expensive, but I don't see why. You can get a nice used leather saddle for pretty darn cheap, and it'll do the job. Leather = nice looking, comfy and easy to clean. Wintecs are poor quality, I rode in one that had holes in it from the stirrup leathers rubbing.
I've heard alright things about those saddles, but I think they are ugly....
In the winter, sure. But I've heard that the colour rubs off and they 'melt' in the summer. They get all sticky and gross. I'd go with plain braided leather reins first, love them!
I ride in western boots when I'm kicking around home riding English. They aren't ideal, but they'll do the trick, for now. You can jump in them, it's fine for low stuff. If your cowboy boots really don't have any grip though, I'd drop them off at a leather repair shop and get some grip put on them. I had to do that with my old field boots. You'll probably want a pair of paddock boots and half chaps, or tall boots if you advance further in English.
