REG: LONG PERIOD TIMERS?


What is a long period timer? If could give me an example

Electronic timer circuits designed for periods in several minutes to hours or more.
The typical "timer" uses decay/ charge-time of a cap via a resistor as the basic timing element. However typical values of R's & C's are such that they give reasonably accurate results only for certain small values, and then too must be selected for accuracy.

Thus Long Period Timers use different techniques for the timing, and hence have a different name. Typically using digital counters of some variety.
