measuring english saddles tree
i have some questions about buying an english saddle.?
i ride at a lesson barn and i have to use a schooling saddle. but the stirrup size has to be measured every time i ride. and some of the saddles don't fit me right. Some of the riders own their own saddles and one of my friends who has one told me i should buy my own. and i think i should but price is a problem. i can't afford a nice saddle. and i want to get one because i want to buy a horse of my own sometime in the future. so i'm just prepairing for that day. so here is my questions.
1. how do you measure your saddle size.
2 i mostly ride a large tennessee walker, so what tree size should i get
3 they also have quarter horses and breeds like that
A lot of people will say that to measure your saddle size you can measure the length of you upper leg and add 2 inches but I don't believe that that works. To get the right tree size for your horse you need to really try different brands. You probably need a medium-wide to a wide but brands like Stubben and Cliff Barnsby have trees that our wider than some other brands. You should get advice from the people that know your horse well and see what they say for him. Another good idea is to get a saddle with an easy change gullet system, because you are thinking about getting a horse one day you either have to buy a horse that matches your saddle which would be a little weird or buy a new saddle. With the easy change gullet system you can just change the size of the tree when riding a different horse. I have heard mixed reviews about it though, and it is only in newer models so it might be hard finding an inexpensive one that's in good condition.
