Selling a saddle online?
I have a 16.5 inch close contact pessoa saddle that I need to sell, and am thinking about putting it up on e-bay or some other website.
How do I go about shipping it to the buyer so that it doesnt get damaged? Does the buyer usually pay for shipping? What are some good sites to sell a saddle on other than e-bay and tacktrader.com?
I tried craigslist with no luck, and my local news paper, and put up ads at tackstores/shows. No one is interested, the economy is beyond terrible where I live, no one is buying anything horse related. I'm pretty sure the only way I am going to sell it is online to someone out of state, meaning I will have to ship it.
Ebay works wonderfully, I sell a lot of saddles on there. The cheapest on shipping charges (I have the buyer pay for shipping) is going parcel post, ships in 2-9 days. There is a shipping calculator on ebay, you fiqure the weight and size of the box.
I always place the saddle in shrink wrap and then surround it in packing material... news paper if nothing else. Have had no complaints on shipping.
You do have to figure though that they charge a listing fee and then a final value fee. I usually avoid the reserve pricing, and I usually list the minimal price that I would take for it as the starting bid. Always list evey scratch, have a good 4 - 6 closeup photos of it and all the dimensions.
Other than craigslist, I haven't found anything that really has a lot of buyers.

Have Pessoa A/O saddles always had calfskin seats and knee pads?
I have a 1994 Pessoa A/O saddle for sale with an interested buyer. This was Made in England and bears this stamp on the sweat panels above the ID number. The interested party said that these would currently be made with sticky calfskin seats and knee pads, and wants to know if mine has these as well. The Pessoa website gives no clue, does anyone have an old tack catalog left over from 1994, or know the answer? Many thanks!
I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly, but youmight be able to feel it and tell what it is. The knee rolls will be especially soft and supple. Take your ficnger nail and GENTLY scratch it on the seat. It it leaves a mark, use your fingers to rub it away. If it fits these characteristics, it's probable calfskin. I don't know if the buyer wants calfskin or not, but I know some poeple don't like it because it damages easily. I've got that saddle and I ride in jeans half the time, and the calfskin is holding up very well. Good luck with the sale!

Check out Kuda Store's treeless saddles and breastplate. They cater primarily to the paso fino/ gaited breeds. Kuda makes a very well made and nice looking treeless saddle, in both English (which is what I bought to show in) or trail. All of Mauricio's products are so well made (he's an engineer). I see alot of ugly treeless saddles out there, and this is one that looks stylish and like a normal saddle. Very nice headstalls and reins, too.
