I have been thinking about buying a saddle?!?!?
I have been thinking about buying a saddle for MONTHS now, I have been riding for almost three years and I show and jump, after all these months i STILL don't know if i should buy one or not. if i did buy one i would buy a used one because it would be my first, Please give me a list of pro and cons to owning your own saddle, and please if you think i should get one then what kind??
Not every saddle fits every horse so if you are going to buy your own saddle I suggest a treeless saddle. Not only are they way more comfortable for you and your horse they will fit more horses than a treed saddle. Although no saddle fits every horses a treeless saddle will fit more horses. I prefer having my own saddle if I'm going to ride someone elses horse. I like the feel and comfort of my own saddle. I don't have to constantly change the stirrup length either. i'm an "advanced" saddle seat rider and soon starting hunter/jumper lessons?
I don't like using the word "advanced" but just to get the point across that I know how to ride well. I have taken saddle seat lessons for over 5 years and I have my academy gold medal, and I have no desire to go pro in saddle seat, even though I am riding better than ever, bringing home blues alot, but its not my thing.
I am expanding my knowlege and taking hunter jumper lessons, probably at the end of summer.
how long do you think it will take before I start jumping??

Well if you already know how to control a horse then you'll move a lot quicker then most starting out. The first few lessons will probably work on your position, controlling the horse in position, keeping your position. Position is really key in hunter jumper, and if you have a good trainer then he/she will stress that and constantly embed the basics into you. Depending on how well you pick up the basics, you can be jumping within the first or second lesson.
