All Purpose Synthetic
What type of saddle would you recommend?
I am looking for a saddle that I can use for both flatwork and jumping. Would you recommend a close contact saddle or an all-purpose? Also, would you be able to recommend any good brands, under $1200? I would prefer leather, but synthetic would be okay too, I suppose. Thanks in advance!
I recommend close contact. I HATE jumping in all-purpose saddles, because the back of the saddle hits me in the butt.
For jumping I use an M. Toulouse, and for flatwork I use a Collegiate.
If you are going to be showing on the flat though(as well as over fences,) I recommend a collegiate.
I DO NOT recommend a wintec. DO NOT GET ONE. They are very cheap in all aspects and I have not rode in one that is good. They sound good at first, but they've always restricted MY movement, hurt my back, and gave me awful equitation... and I've heard that too from a lot more people. Collegiates are cheap but nice quality.
Though if you are willing to go a bit higher in price, I LOOVE Stubbens. I ride in my bf's stubben a lot and it is sooo nice and comfortable.

English saddle types and brands?
I'm looking for an all-purpose English saddle, leather or synthetic, and for the lowest price I can find that ensures quality. What are some good, reliable brands that I should take a look at?
I've ALWAYS been a Stubben fan. Mainly because they are well made and hold their value. I'd go for a gently used Stubben Siegfried. BTW my Siegfried is now 40 years old and going strong.
