Saddle Caramel
Pre-first ride saddle conditioning routine?
Im buying a new saddle- either Courbette Alpina or Bates CC Caprilli. Although Im unsure of that, I am sure that im buying the "newmarket"/"caramel" color.
So my question is- What oil/conditioner/saddle soap should I get to protect it from my first rides and stimulate the breaking in process?
ALSO- What products do I need for maintence after its broken in?
Please tell me WHAT and WHERE to buy.

Clean it with saddle soap (I use lexol). This gets any wax off and dirt from shipping and sitting in the store. Neatsfoot oil is a great conditioner - if you are worried about darkening a light saddle, use neatsfoot formula.
Lather it on really well-not so much that it is dripping off, but be generous with the oil. Let it soak in well.
For general maintenance, saddle soap and conditioner - use the oil every once in a while to help. If you are going to go to a show, oil the night before is good - but wipe it off the seat immediately. If you let it soak in and ride in it immediately, the seat tends to be really slick. For the stirrups, I roll them up after cleaning and put them in a bowl of neatsfoot oil for about 10 min, then I take them out and wipe them off so they do not drip. This keeps them soft and supple. Same maintenance care and maybe dunk them once a year or so.
I do the same with my bridle.
