Am I responsible if I'm an Authorized User?
I was an authorized user on my father's Sears Mastercard. I paid whatever I charged & have records of my $13,000 in payments. He let other family members (non authorized users) use his card as well. Now the balance got back up to $12,000, the account is closed & in horrible standing. Dad has since passed away and his estate (zero assets) has been closed. Am I going to be saddled with this debt if I'm not the actual borrower? I know at one time it was being reported on my credit report when it was in excellent condition & I'm worried that this account will now ruin my credit.
Authorized users are not responsible for paying credit card debt period.
As far as your report goes the negative information will show on your credit as well as your late Fathers unless he removed you as a authorized user before th account went bad.
