How can I identify the maker of a western saddle?
I was recently given a western saddle that had been stored for some years. It was very dirty, and it wasn't until after I began cleaning the leather that I realized how lovely all the leather carving is. I was wondering if there's anyway to identify who made the saddle? I can provide a link to a photo if anyone is interested in giving this a try.
Check the fenders as the first poster said and the back of the cantle. Wish you could provide us with photos, that would be a LOT of help.

Where do I find a sidesaddle?
I'm am hoping to move from dressage and flat work into taking some sidesaddle lessons. I have no experience with sidesaddles and all the saddle makers I know don't make them or don't make them anymore. Can anyone tell me some good quality sidesaddle names and where to start looking for a sidesaddle?
Also, I am located in AB, CAN and am wondering if anyone knows about sidesaddle instructors?
I think you should find an instructor first. They will have more knowledge about that right size sidesaddle. Also if you plan jumping you want a sidesaddle with a special horn. It's also best if your horse jumps with a flat back as to not pop you out of the saddle. You may have some luck at estate auctions for saddles just be weary as they may be really old and the leather may not be strong. Have fun exploring this displine. I know I love it.
