Saddle Makers
Saddle Makers
what is the value of an antique saddle makers bench, possibly 1800's circa?

It seems to be a rare object. But look at the pic. of one for sale: on Ebay - George III saddle seat bench of mahogany #1683950 ((the date seems right - G III reigned in the 19th c) It is valued at $275 - is it similar to yours?

Saddle help!!! Please read only for experienced saddle makers?

I ride multiple horses from arabians, quarter horses, throubreds, morgans and i was wondering what type of saddle size should i go for. I was thinking wide and then have a padded saddle pad fro thinner horses but i am not sure. Please give responsible awnsers. Thank You!
P.S i ride english and want a close contact saddle for flatwork and jumping.

I personally would not go for that option. Even with the padding, you are still dealing with pressure points at the withers and back for your narrow backed horses and pinching at the shoulders for your wide withered horses.

The Wintec system seems to be the best system for what you've described. You may want to consider several moderately priced saddles as opposed to one high cost saddle.

I have a similar situation though most of the horses I ride tend to be wide backed and mutton withered. I move between various gaited mountian horses (all wide backed) to quarter horse type paints to a warmblood and even the occasional draft. My answer has been an Orthoflex. Some of their English versions allow the stirrups to be adjusted for either flatwork, dressage or moderate jumping. The older saddles, made before the founder Len Brown left, tend to be closer contact but it is not close contact.

One Response to “Saddle Makers”

  1. Peter Preston says:

Contributor Michael Williamson, whom I thank for his kind reply, writes:”As for horses, where would we get all the blacksmiths and saddle makers from?”
