The difference in knee rolls?
Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone knew the difference between a "triangle knee roll" and a "pencil knee roll"? Also I was wondering if I should get a close contact, or a jumping saddle. Right now I have a close contact one, but I was wondering which is better?

The actual blocks are under the knee roll. The knee roll is the padding on the saddle flap, but the blocks are under it. A pencil knee roll is a thin and long, and is just a strip at the edge of the flap. These type of knee blocks are common in equitation, because it can be used for both the flat and jumping, without having to feel uncomfortable.
A triangle knee roll is good for jumping, because it keeps your knee back in jump position. The block is higher up and shaped like a triangle (obviously), which goes well with a shorter stirrup which you need for jump position. This type of block is often accompanied with a thigh block, which keeps your leg from going back too far.
If you do jumpers or jump a lot, then i would go with the triangle block. If you do equitation or hunters, go with the pencil knee block so you can work on the flat and jump comfortably.

What's the difference in triangle and pencil knee blocks on a saddle?
I've heard of both, but I don't know what they are. Is it just the shape of the knee roll? What does each one look like?

Couldn;t find a triangle pic, but it's basically a "triangle-ish" shaped roll. It gives more of a gradual lift to the front of the saddle, where the pencil just blocks your knee, not really a gradual incline. It's hard to explain, I wish I could find a pic. If I find one I'll get back here.
