Saddle Smooth Leather Help!! I lent my english saddle to someone and their cat left puncture scratches on it. How can i fix it?
There are deep scratch marks and punctures on the pommel. Is there something i can rub into the leather to smooth it back out or does the leather need replacing now?
personally i dont see how YOU could let someone use YOUR saddle so i think that should help u learn you lesson............................
Use a damp sponge to wipe off dust and other dirt but do not over wet. Then use a glycerine saddle soap, dip it in lukewarm water and then take a clean dry sponge and rub that onto the saddle soap – not the other way round. Then rub the loaded sponge to the leather rubbing hard in small circular movements. Regularly apply more saddle soap.
If it is very dry then dip the soap, not in water but saddle oil or neatsfoot oil which is specifically for leather and continue as before.
I do not understand the bit about the name written on the bottom. I am guessing it has been stamped in or scratched in. Just apply more soap.
As for blemishes – are these stains or scratching? I should think continued cleaning would get rid of these.
