I wanted yo know What I need to start out with showjumping I already know you need a horse =P but i would like to know what kind is best.
I have been riding for 8 years and jumped up to 3'3 and now its finally time to get my own horse =) (I have a pony , but sadly im selling becuase she is not what i was looking for) I would love to jump atleast 4 feet (or higher) Some questions I was hoping could be answered were:
1)What Kind Of horse is best for HIGH jumps 2)What Saddle/Bridle/Other tack would i need 3)How Much Would Everything cost 4)How Tall should the horse be? 5)Anything Else you would Like to Tell me =)
Thank-you and try not to be mean =) Thats Good , I was Wanting A Throughbreed. I Wouldnt Pay more then $6,000 For a horse because Im only 14 and dont have that much money for a $15,000 horse, but thats ok becuase when i was looking i found some good horses in my price range =)
1. Warmbloods or Thoroughbreds are the best jumping horses. And Definitely NOT drafts, drafts are NOT for jumping. 2. You will need a bridle that fits your horse, a good close contact jumping saddle, splint boots, ankleboots, might need more, but it really depends on your horse. 3. Well if you want an average horse, like 5,000 to 10,000. If you want a good horse specifically trained for show jumping, more like 15,000 to 50,000. A good jumping saddle ranges from $800 to $3000. Bridle is about 100 to 150. Splint and ankle boots to protect there legs is around $150 for both. 4. The horse should be a minimum of 15.3 , it'll make it easier for him to go over the jumps if he is taller. 5. When looking for a horse, look for natural ability over the jumps, how well he listens to your aids, his attitude, and personality. He or she needs to have nice big feet and big boned. If I think of more I'll post more... Good luck!!!
Thats good, yeah I forgot about the major decrease in prices lately, the horse market is down. but yeah TB's are absolutely my fav kind of horse!!!
Here is an example of a horse that is built nicely for jumping:
No. Its not a good saddle. My friend bought one like that and it doesn't fit any of the horses, and its really uncomfortable. Some good brands are Collegiate, Crosby, Pessoa, and Bates. There are some other good brands to, but these are the best. Good luck!
