Saddle Trees
How do you know what kind of saddle size (tree size) to buy for a Medium Size Horse?
Help.
It is often hard to tell what tree size will fit your horse properly, but you can usually gage the approximate size by looking at the width of your horse's barrel frome the back and front. The tree size pertains to how wide the top of the horses back is, and the average saddle comes in narrow, medium, and wide tree sizes. The best bet would be to ask your trainer or instructor (or a knowlageable friend) their opinion, because I cannot tell you anything specificly without looking at your horse. Then, once you think you have found about the right size saddle, ask to take it on trial for a couple days and have the same trainer or instructor come look at it. Make sure to actually ride your horse in this saddle, because you can usually tell if the saddle fits or not if your horse acts uncomfortable or different than usual. Good luck!

I tried to post earlier but I must not have followed the rules.
I was shocked to hear about Mike. I stumbled on the news by accident. I met Mike back in the mid 90's and he made some great saddle trees for me. I visited with him enough to get to know him and admired his cool demeanor. He and I had some great ideas but we never seemed to connect on a direction that we both thought at the time was a great dream. What I didn't know then was that we were both pickers and song writers. Such a missed opportunity.

Well you won't ever get one saddle to fit 3 horses!!! i have 2 saddles for just 1 horse, my fat spring horse then my fit summer horse { still 1 horse uses 2 saddles} i would try to get a wintec with the new cair systems that changes shape to the horse and you can change the gullets.
