What is a cheap way to make a saddle that is too wide fit?
I have heard of using a square of egg crate foam but i don't even have enough spare cash to pay $40 for that. I just bought a new saddle about a month ago and the tree is to wide for my thoroughbred. What is the least expensive way that i can fix this problem? It would really help if it was under $20 but more preferably under $15
well it is never a good idea to ride a horse with a saddle that is too big but if it is only a little big you could try to just use one or two extra saddle pads and see if that improves the fit. it would be like if you bought a pair of shoes that were 2 sizes too big for you. if you put on enough pairs of sox you could walk in them but it still wouldnt be very comfortable for you. so i would reccomend trying to return the saddle if you can and exchange it for one that fits or possibly selling your current saddle and buying one that will fit your horse. i know its probably not the answer you wanted but it will probably be the best solution for both you and the horse

What width is a 9 1/2" wide saddle?
im not very good when it comes to saddle widths, so i was wondering can some one help me. is a saddle medium or wide if its 9 1/2" D to D
im talking about the saddle width, measured between d ring to d ring rather than the seat size, but thanks, sorry if i didnt make it very clear
It depends on the way the tree sits and how good you are at measuring - but that should be a wide. The D ring measurement is quite widely used in the second hand saddle market but obviously is widely open to misinterpretation because of the way the Ds are positioned on different saddles. It's a very useful measurement but only if you know the saddle maker and how his saddles fit!
But yeah - that'll be a wide.
