Saddles what can you tell me about double T saddles?
I found a new one at a very reasonable rate, but don't know anything about them.
Have you ever used Double T saddles, and if so, would you recommend them? thanks!
I bought a Double T at an auction in January of this year; it's a 15" barrel saddle with a green faux ostrich seat. The saddle is gorgeous, but the leather isn't so great. I fell in love with this saddle at the auction and got it at a great price, but after I got it home and looked it over more closely I found that the leather isn't as high-quality as I first beleived.
It is almost plastic-looking and is not very supple. Furthermore, as I continue to use the saddle, the suede is wearing and turning smooth and gray. It doesn't really bother me because it is under my leg but it still kind of annoying. The leather around the pommel and cantle is laquered with a false finish with little "sparklies" in it, which makes it impossible to oil.
I like the saddle as of now, as it fits my horses, but I'm not sure as to how long it will last. I have a feeling that I will be purchasing a new saddle fairly soon.
As for your saddle, I would pass on it. If you look closely you will see that the jockeys, fenders, and skirts are shiny. This probably means that they are finished with the same laquer that bugs me to no end. If you have the opportunity to see the saddle in person you will have a better idea as to the quality. But if you must purchase it sight-unseen, I would pass. I have yet to experience whether or not the saddle will last a long time, but the leather is not of good quality and therefore does not impress me.

What is your opinion on saddles with CAIR?
Ive had one saddle fitter tell me to stay away from CAIR panel saddles, and one tell me theyre great and its all he'll use?
Personaly I stick to flock as its what I know but if CAIR really does help I would like to try it. Ive heard some people like it, some dont.
What is your opinion on CAIR? Do you have experiences with it?
I think they work well, especially if you have the gullet change system too. If you know your horse will have muscle changes over time it's a good way to go. BUT, if there's a huge difference you will probably need a new saddle.
We got my mare two years ago, not conditioned at all really. We got her a Collegiate Convertible which has CAIR and gullet change. It worked great for the first year and a half and now she is not happy with it at all. She won't move forward and she absolutely will not bend and flex. She has gained so much muscle since we had gotten her that the saddle hardly fit anymore. It had a little rock to it and it was pinching her shoulders.
I felt really stupid for not thinking to check it ever. Now we have a Hennig saddle which is AMAZING, she loves it, she moves more forward and is a lot more willing to bend. And now I can sit her trot because it isn't going up down!
So yeah they're great depending on what you do. If you like trail riding it's handy to have synthetic for when you need to cross a creek or it starts to rain or whatever. If what you don't plan on major changes with your horse, they're great.
