Are all purpose saddle worth buying?

I want to buy a Collegiate close contact, but I've had trouble finding a used one. There are a lot of all purpose Collegiates for sale. Are all purpose saddles worth the money? I heard they aren't that good because they are not specifically for one discipline. I do hunter/jumping.
Thanks!
I am a beginner rider- if that makes a difference.
I am going to start showing this season. Thats why I need to buy a saddle asap.

I've found that all purpose saddles aren't much good for anything but trail rides.

Find out what you're interested and get a saddle suited for that. If you're interested in jumping/hunters/eventing, get a jump saddle. You can get one with knee rolls or without if you prefer close contact. If you want a close contact saddle, hold out and you can probably find a better one than a Collegiate used as well.

Whenever I jumped in an AP saddle (friends, etc.) I got major bruising on my legs & pubic bone because of it!!! I hate riding in them.

What you should do is go to a tack store and pick a couple of saddles out and take them home to try them to see how they feel and fit. You'd just need to leave a deposit with the store so they have something in case the saddle gets destroyed.

These are my all time favorite saddles. My two friends both have one and I need to find one becuase they are the most comfortable saddle. They usually come around 1000 but I want to find one at least under 600. It can be used or new. I just need to find some sites for some or something. Help me out please!

It depends on what you do for riding. If you just like to trail ride for fun, take the TWH. If you get into showing, I would take the QH. However, if there is something you like about the TWH, think about that one. We were looking at a bunch of horses, and had narrowed it down to two. One was a Appy from a weird family. The other was a wonderful, responsive, enjoyable chestnut. Both geldings. When we rode the Appy, he was lazy and slow. When we rode the chestnut, he responded perfectly, and we loved riding him! But looking into each of there eyes, the Appy seemed to have tons of personality, really enjoyed being alive, the chestnut had this glazed over look. You could tell that he was just the kind of horse that you have a ride on, then throw back in the stall. We ended up taking the Appy for that reason, and he is right in our backyard bein' a good boy (most of the time, haha). Go with the horse that feels right I guess I'm saying. =)
