Saddles And Tack How do you get mold out of a tack room and off tack?
The place where I board has some how got mold in the tack room. Thankfully may saddle only has some on the metal top of my saddle horn. How can we clear this up so I can store my saddle back in the tack room without it getting gross? And how do I get that mold off my saddle horn? Will the bleach hurt the other saddles that are covered in the mold?
I kind of forgot to mention that there are about 10 saddles that are covered.
DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT use bleach on leather!
Use a mild dishwashing liquid (NOT Dawn or Ivory) Put a squirt into a bucket of (NOT HOT) water, swish it to make suds and clean the whole saddle. Rinse thoroughly. While wet but not dripping, apply Lexol straight from the bottle to all but the suede parts of the saddle(s) untill no more willl absorb.
A thorough cleaning and disinfecting of the tack room should follow. Since it is moisture that promotes the growth of mold, I'd suggest a de-humidifier for the tack room. Maybe several of the Damp Rid canisters from the cleaning section of wally world. . .
