Saddles And Tack
Is there a certain type of saddle that is best to use with a tennessee walking horse?
I am soon getting a tennessee walker and i don't know what type of saddle or tack i should get...i've been looking up up with no results so if you have any info let me know
i usually ride quarter horses so i'm used to a western saddle...but i have used english...and most the riding will be for pleasure...just wanted to know which would be best/easiest for hore and rider
no. But i must stress this. get a saddle that fists the Horse first then you can wory about it fitting you.
I own 3 Tennessee Walkers and my first one was very hard to saddle fit. You would think that when the saddle is a Tennessee Walker gaited horse saddle it should fit him. Well, not in all cases. My first TWH was very werid in conformation. He had perfect TWH coformation but it was weird. He had masive shoulders a short narrow back and long sloping haunches.

even in the second one you can see his massive soulders.( he is 16.2Hh)
But anyways back to the saddle. We tried everything for him even Australian saddles but setteled on treeless Saddles. We ride him in a Bob Marshal Treekess Saddle which is amazing for him.
Basiclly a treeless saddle is a saddle without a tree so it forms to any horses back. It comes in western and english. And i have owned my Bob Marshall for 5 years(shown in it gone on 6 hour trail rides in it and loved it to death)
Even if ou dont want a bob marshall a treeless is your best bet. i also prefer it over rigid tree saddles because the tree limits your connection of shock between the horse and rider andthe shock intake connection is vital in gaited hroses to tell if they are doign a running walk or pacing.

English Saddle/Tack for Clydesdale?
I need some help. I for one need to know the type/size english saddle I would need for an 18 hh clydesdale. I also would like to know a good place to get tack that is a bit cheaper than most for a Clydesdale. Thank you everyone and please be nice.
Any place that sells tack. Measure your guy but he will probably be a wide tree. Thats what my 17.1hh Clyde is. He has a close contact saddle bought from the local tack store. As far as what type..well that depends on what type of riding you do...western? english pleasure...dressage...jumping? Ebay is a good spot to look for tack but usually you dont have the demo/return option if it does not fit your guy. He will wear an oversized bridle (I got one for my guy on ebay for about $12) and girths may be a little tricky to find. My guy is a 54"-56" which normally can be ordered out of catalogues but my friends draftX mare is too large and she has to have a custom made girth.

I should think that even in the US there are companies that supply and advise on side saddles.
I recommend that you get lessons from someone who does side saddle teaching as you could ruin a horse's back if you do not do it correctly!
I confess I know nothing about side saddle riding – only sat on one once at a Pony Club demonstration.
