Western Barrel Saddle
Can I use a western pleasure show saddle for reining? Can I use a barrel saddle for cutting? Thanks?
I've been riding hunters for a few years but am bored and going back to showing western. I was just wondering if I have to buy a seperate saddle for every different discipline. I already own a roping saddle and a western pleasure saddle.

i guess, but barrel saddles typically have deeper seats in them to keep you in the saddle more securely but either will work.

If it is actually stamped "Circle Y Barrel Saddle" I'd be leery. It may be counterfeit. The maker's stamp should be a circle with the words "Circle Y, Yoakum Texas" inside. The only type of Circle Y I've ever come across that has the model of saddle stamped inside the circle logo is their Rebel Edition.
Get the serial number off the saddle, it should be located on the latigo carrier just above the stamped logo. Email Circle Y directly with the serial number and ask them for the specifics on that saddle, they should be able to tell you everything right down to when it was made and the sizing.
IF it's a genuine Circle Y then yes, that is a very good deal and provided it fits your horse I'd say get it.
Edited to add: If it's a higher-end Circle Y it may have the silver maker's mark on it in which case instead of the Circle Y stamp it will have a silver oval on the latigo carrier that has the brand information on it. The serial number should still be stamped on the saddle, most likely above the silver oval.
I'd also like to say that a $100 Circle Y is a deal of a lifetime as far as saddles go. You will not find a better saddle for that price, and you will never find another Circle Y that cheap.
