   But "bumby" is not the correct spelling. The correct spelling is 'brumby' and it is an Australian wild horse.

   Of the types of martingale the "Irish martingale" is used in racing and it's only purpose is to keep the reins from going over the horse's head if the rider falls off.

   Billie, I have looked at those saddles on the internet. About 10 years ago, when we lived in England, I was fortunate enough to stay at Heather Moffett's place in Devon for a weekend of coaching. She was excellent, this was before she developed the Fhoenix saddles, I think she had one for Thorowgood at the time (or some other brand of synthetic saddles). I really enjoyed riding her school master lippizaner in far more advanced dressage moves than I was (or still am) up for. I want to see if I can find a saddler here who can look at Ben in whatever saddle I do go for. I am afraid it is going to be expensive.

   June, I like the idea of an endurance saddle, if even to relieve the pain I can get in my knees after a long ride.
