Wintec Saddle Fitting
Saddle fitting question?
I have a 14.1 pony mare. She is built a little downhill. I have a Wintec 500 on her right now, she can turn on the forehand, collected canter and trot, jump 2'3, just about everything. The thing is, when I take the saddle off there is dry spots behind withers. She doesn't seem in pain, because she can do anything I ask of her under saddle without any fuss. Do I need to be worried or is it normal for some horses to have dry spots? she does have low withers, and according to my coach, my mare takes a Med-wide gullet. I also have a saddle pad along with a Fleeceworks pad under the saddle.
Hair is not getting rubbed, just dry. As in everywhere is sweaty but this spot behind withers.
Maybe I'm having a blonde moment, I don't know, but can you define what you mean by dry spot? I mean, are you saying everywhere else is sweaty but there? Or do you mean the hair gets rubbed off? Or what....
I'm sure once you explain it I'll feel like a stupid moron and be embarrassed LOL.
Anyways, I would put my hand under the flap of the saddle and apply pressure to the outside of the saddle with my other hand (while you have it sitting on her back). See if you feel any unevenness or sharp spots, etc. If the pressure is evenly distributed and it feels comfortable, then it's probably fine.

Wintec Saddles/Synthetics? Few Questions?
I have a few questions about Wintec Saddles. I've never had a synthetic saddle, other than my canvas-like Western ones. I have the Isabella (I think? I got it at a thrift store..) because I have a hard to fit TB. I am ordering a show saddle, but in the meantime how do I clean the micro-fiber suede of the Wintec? It's filthy..and my grey horse is shedding everywhere so it's covered in grey hair. Should I just vacuum it or use a damp cloth? I don't want to mess the suede up anymore than it already is (it's an older saddle so it's kind of worn down).
Another question: the straps that go down from the flaps..what are they for? They're really annoying, is it ok if I cut them off? http://villagetack.net/osc/images/Wintec-isabell-Dressage-saddle-661362.JPG - those things in between the billet straps.
I just use a damp cloth. I think there is also a a spray available.
The strap is to keep down the flaps. I have mine cut off, works fine
