Wintec Stirrup Leathers

What length stirrup leathers do i need?

Im getting my horse in a few weeks so have never actually brought stirrup leathers before and am unsure what size i need. Im 5ft 4 and do ride fairly short. Im looking at the wintec slimline stirrup leathers which come in either 48" 56" or 64". Thanks :)

hi! i am the same size as you and i have those stirrup leathers ! i have them in a 56" they are the right size but still allow you to go longer and shorter..

good luck with your new horse =]

Horsemans onestep turned my saddle WHITE?

Okay, so lastnight I decided to condition/clean my saddle. I have been using horsemans one step to clean my bridles with for YEARS... Ive always had a wintec saddle so never had to condition it! I bought my first leather saddle, a Collegiate Convertible Senior Eventing saddle about two months ago. I noticed it started getting black spots where the stirrup leathers hang so figured dirt was getting rubbed in. I was warned to only oil my saddle 3-4 times a year.. so instead I cleaned/conditioned my two bridles and then set down to work on my saddle. It wasnt five minutes later that I noticed it was turning white!

What do I do now? Do I oil it? it wont buff out, I only used a little on a damp cloth... im worried sick... sure it didnt cost me $3k but $949 is a lot on a saddle for it to get ruined like this..

Chauntelle, I've used Horseman's One Step for years on my own tack, and the way to avoid this problem you've just had is to make sure that you rinse or wipe off the tack when you are done cleaning, AND to USE the cleaner SPARINGLY !!! A little goes a LONG, LONG, WAY- and I suspect that part of your problem is that you used WAY TOO MUCH of it when you were cleaning. HOS will leave a residue if it is not wiped off properly- there are warnings to that effect on the label. It also should NEVER be used on suede, such as is often found on the covers of knee rolls on jumping saddles. HOS RUINS suede. If you are really worried about the leather, wipe off as much of the cleaner as you can, and then follow that with a rubdown of Lexol or another conditioner.

I've gotten so I actually prefer either glycerine saddle soap for cleaning, or I use a product like Lexol's Leather Cleaner, which works well and doesn't stain or darken leather, or leave a residue. My sister who plays polo uses a combination of Murphy's Oil Soap mixed with olive oil at a one to one ratio for cleaning her tack, and it's some of the best maintained equipment I've ever seen. My mare broke her reins recently ( about a month ago) and my sister gave me a set of her old polo reins as a replacement. I swear, those reins are the softest things I've ever held in my life ! I think I might try her method for a while on my own tack, especially my bridle, which could use some softening up. Her method may not work for everyone, however.
