Wintec Trail Saddle

Long term bareback riding?

I lease a TWH, whom I have been leasing for the last few years. I have been using the same saddle, but I fear that it doesnt fit (its an ugly wintec dressage saddle) When its in its propper place I can just jab 2 fingers under. While everyone says thats fine, I am skeptical.
I hate the western saddle with a flying passion so I am going to forget that it exists.

So the question... we'll get to that.
I really enjoy riding her bareback. The thing is, She is 20, and her back is a bit boney. This isn't a problem for me, but am curious if it would be a problem for her if I was to ride 2x a week, bareback (with a pad) doing arena work (ground poles) and trail riding.

Anyone have proper resources on seat position (basicly pelvic position) for bareback?
Not to mention, I have been riding her bareback for a while, and we are pretty ballanced.

I had a saddle issue (horse actually sprouted muscle and grew out of his saddle) a few years ago and rode bareback for the month-month and a half til I got a new saddle. My horse is an Arab and was around a 4 on the body score scale then, so fairly boney. It did really help with my position and feel of my horse.

2x a week should not be a problem for her. Bareback places all the weight in one place whereas a saddle spreads it out - so your job is to try and spread your own weight out. If you are bouncy and awful and keep coming down on one point, sure your horse will get sore. But if you ride well, you could ride bareback everyday with no issues, bony or not.

There's a better article than this somewhere (more about seat while bareback), but the search results were kind of grossing me out. I think it was a Practical Horseman article, though...by a dressage rider...maybe?

I rode in that saddle yesterday, and fell in love! I know some of you arnt Wintec fans, but it works for me, because I want to do "green as grass" xD level eventing, trail riding, and just goof around with my friend. It fit my arab PERFECTLY. I want that one from dover, but I found the same thing on Horse.com ( http://www.horse.com/item/next-gen-wintec-500-ap-saddle-cair/SLT901401/ ) but it looks much different. I like the more forward flaps, but i like the horse.com price much better! Is it the same saddle? Plus, whats your review of the saddle?

It is NOT the same saddle.

The one from Dover is Close Contact version of the 500, and the other one is the newer AP version of the 500. I have the AP you listed (which has CAIR), and I love it.

CAIR tends to fit the horses better, and you don't need to have it re-flocked.

I would send an e-mail to the Tack Room, Inc. to ask what their price would be on the Wintec 500 Close Contact with CAIR... they include an entire gullet kit when you buy the saddle, and have very good prices. You won't see it on their website, but they can order it in and send it to you. http://tackroominc.com/
